About Gino
After experimenting with photography and sculpture I found myself gravitating towards painting, not knowing why, predominantly landscapes and mostly plein air. After many field trips I discovered a sense of detachment from the environment I was in that I didn’t find in either sculpture or photography. It is a paradox in my life that whilst I paint, on one hand I feel very detached from everything, yet on the other hand I feel at one with the bush, with the earth itself, in a very real sense I feel my soul yearning for this, it is quite intoxicating. It is this fascination with the sense of detachment which is the driving mechanism behind my paintings. I try to remove all human elements as I paint, to break down the bush scenes into their purest and most elementary forms.
