About Leon

As a child I showed artistic talent and was passionate about drawing. However it was not until my mid twenties when I travelled to London that I had the chance to paint every day for four months, and was able to immerse myself in art full time. While painting was not fated to be a part of my daily life until recently, I never gave up on my dream.

Balance, composition, tone and negative space are the primary elements that I engage with as I create. Authenticity is the key quality that I aim for in all my work, along with an ongoing reminder that I am painting for my own satisfaction. I strive to achieve qualities that I admire in other painters.

Now, having just entered my 80s, my artistic process continues to evolve. I remain dedicated to my mission of proving that you can keep learning at any age.

Dylan Thomas’ well-known line ‘Do not go gentle into that good night’ is behind most of my thinking. I get up every day, I paint, I listen to people, I learn, and I keep trying to improve.

Stepping into my studio at Cre8tiv Studios, St Leonards, on an almost daily basis, I always feel I am coming into my second home.
